Fish Creek Park 50th Year Celebrations

June 7, Bow Valley Ranche

Visitors enjoyed browsing the 20 + Community Organizations tents set up in the parking lot and along walkways. The Bow Valley Ranche Historical Society was represented by co-founder and CEO, Larry Wasyliw and Art Exhibition Coordinator, Victoria Zyluk.

We experienced the value of cooperation and collaboration when we set up our tent along the promenade. Coincidentally, our “Helping Hands” display board reflected the many volunteers and visitors who support the Historical Society’s projects such as the Pioneer Garden, Artisan Garden, Legacy Garden and the new Indigenous “Listen” Garden presently under construction.

Our space was shared by CANADA PAINTS PLEIN AIR, a Competition (Aug.9) sponsored by the Bow Valley Ranche and Swinton’s Art Supplies which encourages people to paint outdoors in our beautiful parks. We were thrilled to have Doug Levitt (plein air painter extraordinaire) give a demonstration and explanation of Plein Air Painting!

Thank you to Sherri Zickefoose for facilitating coverage by Aryn Toombs, reporter/photographer for Livewire, Calgary. Many passers-by stopped to admire the artwork of artist, Jennifer Francis, currently exhibiting at the Bow Valley Ranche. Our table also held poetry books by poet laureate, Mary Vlooswyk who performed a poetry reading in the gazebo which she shared with The Ranche’s History Wrangler, Rob Lennard and his band.

A very popular activity at our table was an interactive activity organized by Art Exhibition Coordinator, Victoria Zyluk.
